Kelly & Brian | Wedding Film | Steamboat Springs
As a guy who positively, slavishly worships filmmakers like Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, and Edgar Wright, my creative instincts almost always tell me to try and scale things UP.
If I’m totally honest with myself, I don’t always have the means, the time, or the budget to match my movie-making ambitions, but my natural impulse usually tells me to push things as far as I can, and create something as big and epic as I’m capable of.
But as I was going through all the footage I shot for this wedding, and saw just how thoughtful, tender and attentive Kelly and Brian were with one another, I realized that this video– and the couple — would be much better served if I scaled things DOWN, and really narrowed in on what was obviously the most compelling element in this story: these two *really* love each other, and it shows.
I’m a bit of a sap even on my most cynical of days, but I was honestly really moved by how kind and supportive this bride and groom were, and I wanted to make sure I got that across on-screen.
Even as I was filming them, I was genuinely touched at just how GOOD they are to one another, and I really wanted to share that impression; hoping that everyone else would see what I saw that day.
I’ll leave it to you to decide if I succeeded or not, but I can’t help but smile when I watch this one.
My deepest thanks to Kelly, Brian, and all their friends and family for allowing me to be a part of such a special day. It’s clear to me that the two of them have all the makings of a truly extraordinary marriage. Congratulations!
And of course, I would be terribly remiss if I didn’t mention how fantastic the venue was. Shooting at Bella Vista Estate was like being handed a gift. Those views are INSANE. So beautiful. The whole place– the staff, facilities, everything — was thoroughly great. I’d go back there again in a heartbeat. Can’t recommend them enough.
